While the city continues to recover and reconnect after last weekend’s storm, the good news is there are some summer classics to look forward to this weekend. Attention sports fans! If you’ve missed baseball, we’ve got great news for you. Looking for some bbq? Head to the Kanata Ribfest from Friday through Sunday. The Festival of Small Halls, which started May 13, ends this Sunday with a performance by Skydiggers at Seeley’s Bay Community Hall. Each year, local yoga teacher and creative Jo-Ann Oosterman organizes an art exhibit at Chez Lucien (one of the best burgers spots in the city, if you ask me). Ottawa Punk Fest is a two day event at Cafe Dekcuf (221 Rideau Street) featuring alternative-punk acts from Ottawa, Kingston, and Montreal. We’re down the final days for the latest edition of Magic in the Dark: What’s Playing at Ottawa’s independent cinemas.
The Paddling Film Festival World Tour features the features the best whitewater, canoeing, standup paddle boarding, and kayaking films from around the world. Ottawa Design Club, the recipient of April’s Awesome Ottawa award, is hosting their first ever in-person event! They’ll also be releasing Zine 0004 — Origins with copies available for purchase at the event. This Friday is the Ottawa Art Gallery’s Give to Get Art auction and gala. The Ottawa REDBLACKS are back at Lansdowne for a pre-season game against Toronto Argonauts Friday night. Les terrasses au centre-ville de Gatineau sont officiellement ouvertes pour la saison! Looking for live music? GOOD2GO at the Atomic Rooster, no cover charge from 6pm to 9:30pm. Celebrate great Canadian artists at the 2022 Governor General’s Performing Arts Award Gala at the National Arts Centre.
The ever-changing marketplace that is 613flea returns to the Aberdeen Pavilion at Lansdowne Park with 140 vendors this Saturday from 10am-4pm. This Sunday is the first Concrete Cruisers group skateboard and beach clean event. Fiesta Cubana Fest highlights the best of Cuba in Ottawa with a day of Cuban music, arts, and food. Rounding out the weekend, the first weekly Preston Street Market, co-hosted by Freewheeling Craft and Preston Street BIA, start this Sunday.
